How to guide: Preparing material for editing

Before you do anything to do with your project, you must log into the Mac computer with your local username and password.

 1. Double click on the Macintosh HD icon on the desktop.
After you have reached this point, navigate your way throughout until you reach the Macintosh HD/Users/MediaX/Movies. You log in with local logins because then other people can use the computer with the same login (the local login) to do the work. We also use local logins because it is more spacious on the computer.

2. After you have reached that point then you will need to create a new folder in this icon as something you will remember as this will be your project file. This is where you will access everything. We rename the private folder so it is simple and easy to navigate for everyone to find in the Movies folder, we make other folders within that folder for the different sections of editing so it is easy to navigate and so it is organised. If you rename or if you move the footage and/or folders after you have started to edit the footage then the rest of your team may not be able to find the footage etc in order to continue editing. Also, if the folder is moved out of the original path then it is not as easy for the computer to access, if the folder is renamed then the computer will also not be able to access it as it wont be in the original path.

3. Once you have created an initial folder then you need to mount the SD card onto the computer, this can be done by either connecting the USB lead onto the computer form your filming device, or this can be done by removing the SD card and inserting it into the computer.

 4. After this, the SD card icon will pop open, click on this icon and drag and drop or copy and paste the footage into that "Private file" after this you can re name it "Footage" to keep it all in one place, inside of the initial folder you have already made.

5. After all of the footage is saved and organized in assigned folders, you must go back to the desktop and drag its icon to the bin icon and the bottom of the screen and eject the SD card from the computer.
If you choose to use a USB cord, remove the cord form the computer and the camcorder then remove all of the footage form the camcorder afterwards.

 6. Hover down at the bottom of the screen and click on Premier Pro to open the software.

7. After you have opened this software then you will get a new screen where you will find "Create a new project" this is where you can put it all together and edit the project.

8. Once you reach this point you need to name the project to something which you will remember and where it is easy to find. After you must click the browse button to find the folder you made earlier "MacintoshHD/Users/MediaX/Movies"  After this you need to name your project, it then allows you to navigate your project easier and quicker.

9. Click "OK" at the bottom of that screen, premier pro will then open and it will save all of the settings what have been made by clicking "File>save"

10. You have already saved the footage onto the computer, in the "Private" folder you crated in Movies. Now you simply have to import the footage from that folder into the premier Pro software by clicking "File>Import"

11. Navigate to the folder you renamed, containing your footage, after then click "Import" at the bottom of the folder box and the footage will begin to import into premiere pro. These will appear in the project panel.

12. All of your footage what did import onto the software will appear in this part of the work space. To view a certain piece of footage, you must click and drag the piece into the work space box above the project panel you were in previously.
